An exceptional panoramic wallpaper, wood-block printed on joined papers. Produced in a limited edition, probably made to order, circa 1829-1830.
Conceived during the revival of interest in the Napoleonic epic, this monumental décor retraces Napoleon’s victory at Austerlitz on 2 December 1805. Treated as a vast historical fresco, it stages the principal protagonists and episodes of the battle, in a composition inspired by the works of Horace Vernet, Théodore Géricault (The Wounded Cuirassier) and François Gérard (The Battle of Austerlitz).
Very few examples of this rare panoramic have survived.
